Lorraine Clougherty

Site Coordinator, Jeffries Point Child Care

Lorraine grew up in Dorchester (Boston’s largest neighborhood!) as the 6th of 7 children. At age 23, she moved back to Massachusetts after a 3 ½ year stint on Maui in order to provide childcare for her sister and brother-in-law, who were expecting their 3rd child. She was a live-in nanny for them for 8 years, during which time she pursued an English degree at Northeastern University. In September 1996, she joined the EBSC as a preschool teacher at Jeffries Point and began taking Early Childhood Education courses. In 2001, she earned a CDA (Child Development Associate) credential and worked as mentor teacher for several years with ABCD’s Mentor Teacher Project. She is currently working on an Early Education and Care in Inclusive Settings degree at UMass Boston. What inspires her most about her job is seeing families with whom she has worked with over the years and hearing their success stories. When she is not working for children & families in East Boston, she enjoys riding on the back of her boyfriend’s Harley Triglide trike, cruising the back roads of New England- vroom, vroom!
